As part of an upgrade of the Nevinnomyssky Azot urea processing plant in Russia, a new Flowserve pump was required. The steam condensate media and low ambient temperature made it essential for the pump’s shaft seal system to provide accurate regulation of both temperature and pressure. In 2008 a catalytic hydrocracking plant at the Slovnaft refinery in Bratislava in the Slovak Republic was being upgraded. Engineering and project managers CB&I Lummus turned to Walton for the supply of a control valve to regulate the temperature of lubricating oil to one of the plant’s gas turbines. Walton temperature control valves have been selected for a demanding application at the El Merk oilfield in the Algerian Sahara. This is a remote, harsh and hot desert location where the terrain consists of large interlocking sand dunes. Walton have supplied valves to control the temperature of lubricating oil systems for eleven massive water injection pumps. These are used to maximise output from the oil and gas wells, which will be critical to the successful operation of the $4bn El Merk field.
