Walton temperature control valves are used wherever fluid temperature control is vital – principally in the naval, marine, industrial and power generation industries.

In operation Walton 3-way Temperature Control Valves work continuously to maintain a constant system temperature regardless of the load by automatically proportioning fluid between the cooler and its bypass to maintain the required temperature. The movement of a rotor within the valve causes the necessary flow distribution to achieve this.

Of a distinctive three port design, Walton valves are powered either by an internal thermostatic element or an external actuator.





The accurate temperature control provided by Walton temperature control valves is vital and plays a significant part in reducing system operating and maintenance costs.

A pressure loss occurs across any valve when a fluid passes through it. This is caused by resistance to the flow from the valve's internal mechanism, and is affected by the complexity of the fluid's flow path through the valve.


A greater pressure loss requires more energy to pump the fluid round the system and is therefore less efficient. Significant energy (and therefore cost) savings can be made by selecting a 3-way regulation valve with low differential pressure.


The rotary design of most Walton valves produces a minimal pressure loss by providing a relatively straight and unimpeded flow path through the valve. In particular Walton's self-acting rotary valves achieve lower pressure losses than many competitor products.

Walton valves can be installed upstream of the cooler/heat exchanger with one inlet and two outlet ports (a diverter), or downstream of the cooler/heat exchanger with two inlet ports and one outlet (a mixer).


Most valves can be supplied in any of six possible port configurations to suit the pipework layout. This flexibility enables the valve to match the optimum pipework layout, rather than the pipework having to be compromised to suit the valve.

As space is often at a premium aboard ship and within industrial installations, all Walton valves are designed to be as compact as possible.


With their thermostatic element contained within the valve body, our self-acting valves take up the minimum amount of space.


Walton electric, pneumatic and gas operated valves are of necessity larger due to the space required for their external actuator, but they are still more compact than many competitor products.

The internal parts of all Walton valves can be withdrawn without removing the valve body from the pipework.


On electric, pneumatic and gas operated vales, the actuator, complete with its mounting, can be removed from the valve without breaking into the pressure tightness of the system. 

3-way temperature control valves are more cost-effective for diverting and mixing applications than using multiple 2 way valves.


The ability to variably proportion different flow streams makes 3-way valves ideal for heating and cooling applications. 

Walton valves are highly reliable in operation due to their robust design, skilled manufacture and the high quality of materials used.


This reliability has led to their selection for many safety-critical applications such as backup diesel generators in nuclear power stations and temperature control of systems aboard nuclear powered submarines.
