The Type 23 Frigate is the backbone of the Royal Navy's fleet, with 16 ships in service or under construction. Each £180m vessel is powered by two Rolls-Royce Spey Gas Turbines and 4 Paxman 12CM diesels; these provide a maximum speed of 28 knots (15 knots on diesel-electric).

Walton's servo-pneumatically operated valves are installed on the ships' diesel engine sea water cooling system.  Larger valves of the same type are installed on the oil coolers.

The final vessel of the class, H.M.S. St Albans, has recently been completed by BAE Systems Yarrow Shipbuilders in Glasgow.  This ship shares its name with the home of the Walton valve.

Temperature control on the standby diesel generators of many of France's 58 nuclear power plants is maintained by Walton's servo-pneumatic valve.  The valves' reliability in this application is particularly important.
