A valve was required to control the temperature of lubricating oil on a compressor to be supplied to the Al Shaheen oil field in Qatar. Al Shaheen is one of the world’s largest and most complex oil fields producing 300,000 barrels of oil per day.

The customer’s specification called for a carbon steel valve body with a stainless steel operating mechanism. While the common grades of these materials fall within Walton’s standard product range, an unusual feature of the requirement was that more specialised grades of material were called for on certain parts of the valve. Our flexible product configurator system enabled us to quickly compile a build specification for the valve, and source appropriate materials.

A further requirement was that all materials used had to originate from specified geographic territories. Walton’s material traceability system enabled us to verify that this would be achieved.

This project illustrates that while Walton’s standard products can be configured in many ways to suit most needs, we are always willing to work with customers that have more specialised requirements.
